When Investing in Your Child’s Growth and Future
Hello Parents,
I have been involved in martial arts since the early eighties… yes, before the original Karate Kid movie came out and over the decades I have seen it all!
As a student, athlete, coach, instructor and school operator I have met the full spectrum of instructors and schools. While some are exceptional and provide high quality and ethical programs, others run very low quality programs that in my opinion cheat the students and the parents from what martial arts training should and could provide. Sadly, great schools are harder to find these days.
Yet over the years of operating The Alchymy, no one asks about the qualification and experience of the instructors. No one wishes to know how we teach and what is our philosophy…sadly just the price.
Regardless of the price of the classes, please learn more about the school and what they teach and their standards. Do your homework and invest in your child’s growth and future!
I personally appreciate knowledgeable parents who have done their homework and actually visited other martial arts centres. I know that these parents are looking for something special, and if what we do at The Alchymy is inline with what they are seeking, they will register and become long term students.
It is very true that many martial arts schools employ ‘instructors’ with no or very limited martial arts experience. Many of them are even volunteers who are teaching classes while they themselves have not devoted years into the study.
Martial arts education can be extremely valuable to a child. The self-defense skills they learn can protect them from bullies, the self-confidence can help them succeed in life and the self-control acquired will help them shine in school. But can every martial arts school instill these virtues?
Dear parents, you do not have to register at our martial arts school, but please do as much research about the school and look past the marketing gimmicks or the ‘candy’ or guaranteed black belts they entice your child with a ‘special’ program. Although price should be a deciding factor, please don’t have it as the only reason that you register or not register at a school.
There are quality schools everywhere, however, you may have to sift through many to find a gem.
